The Independent Drive

For nine out of ten tests this is done using a satnav instead of giving you destinations to look for using the signs.

Part way through the driving test the examiner will ask you to stop. He/she will then tell you that you will now do the independent drive.  He/she will either give you a number of directions telling you to follow signs and a specific route or he will show you a map and use this to give you directions.

The idea of this is so the candidate cannot use the timing of the directions as a q for timing the routine on approach to junctions, roundabouts and other hazards.

This seems a good idea to me but I still think that adequate hours spent driving before the driving test is the way to a first time pass and safe driving for life.
